Coming from OSgrid? Your world can go on.

OSgrid will go offline at midnight on Dec 31, 2026 and all assets (clothes, objects, textures, builds) will be wiped. According to OSgrid's treasurer, the grid should come back in 2027: accounts (avatar names) will be kept, but inventories will not; regions running on home computers will no longer be allowed to connect (only approved hosting companies) and the US$ 1 fee per extra region stays. What matters most now: save what is yours by Dec 30. Read the official announcement

What OSgrid announced, in order

Plans may change again: always check OSgrid's official announcements.

1. Save your inventory (IAR)

An IAR is a file with your whole inventory. To create one you need a region connected to OSgrid (your own island at home, or a friend's who can help). In the region console, type:

save iar Nome Sobrenome / SuaSenha meu-inventario.iar

Large inventories can take hours: leave the window open and don't click inside it. The file shows up in the region's bin folder.

2. Save your island (OAR)

An OAR keeps the whole island: terrain, builds and objects. If the region is yours, type in its console:

save oar minha-ilha.oar

Keep the files in more than one place (external drive, cloud). They are your backup.

3. Bring it to VLB Free

  • Create your free account: Join
  • Upload your IAR at "Bring my inventory" (up to 2 GB in the browser, or a link for bigger files). It shows up in its own folder in your inventory. Bring my inventory
  • Want your island back? Install the free VLB Free island at home and load your OAR into it. Island at home

Your IAR is welcome, and checked

According to OSgrid itself, the grid was harmed by IARs full of junk data. That is why we check every file before loading it.

There are also objects that freeze the loading on any OpenSim server. We have seen it happen here with inventories coming from OSgrid: an alpha HUD with more than 200 parts and a 205-part necklace stopped the server mid-load. Those are just two examples: there are many other similar objects. It is not the creators' fault; it is an OpenSim limit. We set aside only what freezes, and the rest of your inventory comes in whole.

Does your IAR freeze? We clean it.

If your inventory has objects that freeze OpenSim, it is not lost: our team sets aside only those objects and loads everything else into your VLB Free account. Have an IAR that froze somewhere else, or one you suspect? Send it through the Bring my inventory page or write to contato@vlbfree.com. Bring my inventory

At VLB Free, what is yours stays yours

The home region is free and you can take your inventory and region with you whenever you want. If you don't know how to create the IAR or OAR, or if the file is very large, write to us and we will help: contato@vlbfree.com

Create an IAR file in the console of a region connected to OSgrid with: save iar First Last / YourPassword file.iar.

In your region console, use save oar my-region.oar. The OAR file keeps terrain, builds and objects.

Where can I take my inventory and region?

To VLB Free: free account, IAR upload on the website and a free home region connected to the grid and the hypergrid.

Will OSgrid charge per region?

Yes: US$ 1 per month for each region beyond the first (the first, up to 512×512, free). According to OSgrid's treasurer, this fee stays in the 2027 OSgrid, and regions will have to run at approved hosting companies, no longer at home.

My IAR freezes when loading. What now?

Some objects freeze any OpenSim server. At VLB Free our team sets aside only those objects and loads the rest of your inventory.
