Your island at home

What you will need

• A VLB Free avatar already created, with its e-mail confirmed. The installer asks for its first name, last name and password. Join
• Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit, with about 4 GB of free memory for a simple island.
• Any internet: fixed or dynamic IP, CGNAT, 4G/5G or Starlink (see the box beside).
• No need to touch your router. The island tests your connection and, if needed, turns on the VLB Free tunnel by itself.

Does it work on my internet?

It works with a fixed or dynamic IP: the island reports to VLB Free every 5 minutes, and its address (island-name.ilhas.vlbfree.com) follows automatically when the IP changes.

When it starts, the island asks VLB Free to knock on its port. If nobody from outside can reach it (CGNAT, mobile internet, Starlink, closed router), it turns on the VLB Free tunnel: the island connects to our server and visitors arrive through it. Windows asks for permission only once.

Optional: opening the port on your router

• Not required: the tunnel takes care of it. But if you know your router, an open port makes the island a bit faster for visitors. Open your router page (usually 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.15.1) and look for "Port forwarding" or "Virtual server".
• Create the rule for ports 9000 to 9099, TCP and UDP, to your computer's local IP. Do it before starting the island for the first time.
• Save and apply (some routers have "Save" and "Save & Apply": use the second). If it still does not work, restart the router.

Good to know

• The island is online only while your computer is on and the island window is open.
• Objects and terrain stay on your computer, in C:\VLBFreeIlha\ilha. Back it up from time to time.
• Uninstalling from the Control Panel removes the program; island data is only deleted if you confirm.
• The VLB Free team may moderate islands connected to the grid. Read the VLB Free rules
